What is Autocross?

Autocross is a car competition featuring a challenging, twisting course laid out in a large parking lot defined by rubber traffic cones. This is not wheel-to-wheel racing. Each driver takes their turn driving to achieve the best time and push their car to the limit.

There are classes for almost every car, from street legal economy cars to full blown race cars. Autocrossing is a great way to learn car control and test the limits of you and your car in a safe, controlled environment.

What You Need to Compete

To participate in one of our events you need a valid drivers license and a vehicle in good working order that can pass a safety test. Your car should have:

  • No oil leaks
  • A secure battery
  • No loose items inside car
  • Muffler that is reasonably quiet
  • Measurable tire tread
  • Tight lug nuts

A helmet is required when you are driving on the course or if you are a passenger. If you don’t have a helmet loaner ones are available. If you bring your own, you will need a helmet that meets certain standards. Helmets must have a Snell “M” or “SA” certification for the year 2005 or newer. Motorcycle helmets with the ECR R22.05 certification are also allowed.

Hobbs Motorsports Park – 5333 North A Street, Hobbs, NM 88240

We have acquired a new site in Hobbs, New Mexico, which is about 240 miles (4 hour drive) from El Paso. It is a large concrete pad situated on an abandoned Air Force base. They have an active drag racing club there but the dates we have set up will not interfere with their drag racing. This is in a semi-remote area, so we don’t have to worry about excessive sound, but we still want all competitors to have mufflers on their cars. We will be having two-day (Saturday and Sunday) events there.
